Blanket Distribution to The Elderly and Needy
Location: Nilofer Hospital, Lakdi-ka-phul
As winter’s chill settled over the city, the Social Club of Don Bosco Degree College turned its attention to those most vulnerable to the cold — the elderly and homeless living on the footpaths of Lakdi-ka-pul, particularly near Niloufer Hospital. On January 9, 2025, the club organized a compassionate Blanket Distribution Drive, offering warmth not just in the form of fabric, but in the form of human kindness.
The initiative was spearheaded by K. Dinesh, President of the Social Club, along with Mohd.Yaseen(Ht.No-108022405039), Yasin(Ht.No-108023539006) and Abdul Sameer(Ht.No-108022405001) Volunteers who shared the idea with the club incharges Mr. Ravi (HOD, Computers) and Mrs. Renuka (Faculty, Computers). Deeply moved by the need, both faculty members wholeheartedly supported the cause and helped mobilize the campus.

A collection drive was swiftly launched, and through the generosity of students and staff, an amount of ₹10,000 was raised. With additional contributions personally made by the president and the incharges, the team managed to purchase 110 warm blankets from Begum Bazar, Hyderabad — each costing ₹110 raised the Total cost of Blankets to ₹12,100.
On the day of the drive, the team visited the Niloufer Hospital premises and surrounding areas, distributing the blankets to elderly individuals sleeping on the ootpaths, homeless families, and needy patients outside the hospital. The joy and gratitude on the faces of the recipients were beyond words — a simple blanket, to many, was a lifeline against the biting cold.
“We didn’t just hand out blankets — we wrapped people in hope.”
The program served as a poignant reminder of how small acts of kindness can restore dignity and offer comfort in the harshest of conditions. It also reinforced the Social Club’s mission to be a force of positive change, fuelled by student leadership and staff mentorship.
This initiative, marked by both empathy and action, stands as one of the most memorable highlights of the academic year.
